What are landforms?
  • shapes of the land areas on the surface of the Earth
What are the four major types of landforms?
  • plains, plateaus, hills, mountains

What are the two main characterisitcs used to describe and clasify landforms?

  • relief
    • texture of the land
      • flat (little change in shape)
      • sharp (a lot of change in shape)
  • elevation
    • height of the land
      • distance above or below sea level
      • measured in feet or meters
What is the topography of the ocean like?
   OR
How is the ocean floor like the land of the Earth's surface?
  • similar to the land
    • has mountains, hills, plains, and plateaus
  • underwater mountains
    • if they break the surface they are called islands
