OBJECTIVE:
  • Identify five (5) qualities necessary for finishing well.

3

BIG IDEA:
To finish well is to be
still RUNNING at the end of the race!

In other words,
DON'T QUIT!

  • QUALITY 1: PERSPECTIVE
    • Perspective is how we DEFINE parts of life.
    • Do we see situations as problems or opportunities?
  • QUALITY 2: COURAGE
    • Life is a STRUGGLE.
    • The Greek word for "struggle" is "agonia", which gives us our English word "agony".
    • Courage is required to keep trying when it is hard.
  • QUALITY 3: PERSERVANCE
    • Life is DIFFICULT.
    • Another word for perservance is DETERMINATION!
    • Remember the story of the Olympic marathon runner from Tanzania who broke his leg?

The Story of the Olympic Marathon Runner

  • QUALITY 4: FOCUS
    • Life is full of DISTRACTIONS.
    • What tends to sidetrack you?
    • Race horses wear "blinders" to help keep their eyes focused in front of them and on the finish line.
    • What are YOUR "mental blinders"?
  • QUALITY 5: PARTNERSHIP
    • Life is LONG.
    • It is easy to start, but hard to finish.  We need people to encourage us to KEEP going!
    • Remember the examples of:
      • Lance Armstrong and the Tour de France.
      • Derrick Redmond and the 1992 Olympics.
